EPROM Never

February 25th 2010 by Yang | Tags: , | Tweet this post

Surefire has expanded its horizons from booking agency to a newly formed record label. Some great forward thinking music to come judging from their first release. Eprom has taken the honor of the kick-off and FaltyDL is on remix duty. Never is very different from what you are used to from this man. He has taken the defining elements of his glitch/wonk/dubstep stompers, merged it all together and added some garage traits in the mix. The result is something very fresh and ‘now’. FaltyDL slowed it down, downpitched the vocals and added his signature shuffles giving his remix this heavy melancholic pressure.

Pixelord – Lucid Freaks Pt.1

February 5th 2010 by Yang | Tags: , , | Tweet this post

Moscovian beats lord Pixelord comes with a free EP. Warm glitchy hip hop rhythms, 8bit overload and overwhelming basses; the formula for some next level music and Pixelord knows how to concoct something really special using these ingredients. This man will be big! Loving the artwork as well, fits perfectly with the feel of the tracks.

1000NAMES Lowriders Mixtape 002

Nr. 002 is here! This one is done by two artists we’ve invited to one of our events last year. We’ve been fans of 1000names since their releases on Eklektik Records. The irregular spacy beats and usage of outerworldly and vintage samples proves that these two have a firm grasp on future sensibility. They’ve always kind of flown under the radar but that’s all going to change soon. With a mix done for Mary Anne Hobbs recently and also an LP forthcoming on Black Acre, the prospective of the new decade is looking good for the two Bulgarians. Tracklist and the interview can be found after the jump.

Pon de download for free of course, and sorry for the self-spammage… Tracklist is in the wave, right place and right time, easy as that..

FACT Magazine: producers to watch

January 25th 2010 by Yang | Tags: , , , , , , , | Tweet this post

FACT did a great feature on 10 upcoming producers who in their opinion will stand in the spotlights of 2010. Some of our favourites like Illum Sphere, Mosca and Julio Bashmore are featured in the series. Every artist contributed a mini-mix as well as an interview. Check out part one and part two.  Highly recommended to download these mixes.
My personal favorite is grime producer SRC. Think of Joker’s earlier work but influenced by the NES instead of Playstation. The guys from Butterz have been pushing his tracks for a while now on their radioshow so it’s no surprise he’s signed to their new label. The now already prolific Numbers label will also put out an 12″ in the near future.

Mweslee – Live @ Mojo Club

January 17th 2010 by Yang | Tags: , , , , , | Tweet this post

With releases on labels like Fat City, All City and Beat Dimensions, I was expecting some head-nodding goodness from Mweslee. It turned out to be something very different and I absolutely love it! Yes, there is plenty of wonky hip hop, abstract beats and dubstep but there’s also a big deal of easy-listening UK funky, RnB and 90s rave. Mweslee finds that perfect balance between being credible and cheesy. The mixing isn’t all that but the insane selections make up for it.

YANG 2009 list

I didn’t think too long and hard about this list. Mainly because I would never be able to create an absolute top 15 and I would always forget some tracks, no matter how long I’d think about it. So I just listed 15 tracks I really really liked out of the top of my head.

Essential Mix: Hudson Mohawke

November 30th 2009 by Yang | Tags: , , , | Tweet this post

Hudson+Mohawke+1The latest BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix was done by Hudson Mohawke! This one sure is something special and I think it’ll be a serious contender for Essential Mix of the year. The mix features a lot of older, as well as new unreleased tracks from himself and not so many from his debut album Butter. This is is a good thing since it really shows the versatility Hudson Mohawke has to offer. Not only are his productions versatile, his selections are as eclectic as it can be. Aside from the abstract beats, glitchy hip hop and R&B Hud Mo lashes out to soul, house, funky, grime, breaks, rave and even skweee.

You can listen to the mix until sunday on the BBC iPlayer.

Here, here and here are some alternate download links.

Tracklisting after you read more.
