Camping EP is the second release by Shlohmo after the Shlomoshun Deluxe vinyl that just dropped the streets. Like the first one Camping is covered with some great beatprogramming, arcade magic and star twinkling. The Camping release is for the Friends of Friends label who also took care of the Shlomoshun Deluxe release. They’ve also released two split compilers the first with with Deadelus and Jogger, the second with Larytta and Bauchamp.
We’ve been writing on his releases quite some time now and we must say, again, he has done it again. A very strong tempting EP it is.
Label boss Pete Concrete of Concrete Records (released records by Funckarma; Aardvarck; Knalpot; Herrmut Lobby to name a few) is a great imaginative dj. His musical inspiration is as diverse as we can seen on his label. He just released an mixtape with a inspiring flight through IDM, abstract beats, purple power, dubstep but also includes some ‘oldies’!
Check the tracklist and your into the download for sure! You can download the zip here.
Part of the Funckarma outfit Roel has been involved in many different kinda projects over the last ten years. He has produced techno, electro, IDM, Hip Hop and dubstep (just to name a few). It seems like it was time to stand on his own after being working along with his brother Don.
The record feels familiar, I recognize sounds, layers, structures from the past but in a way it feels also really fresh because I hear much more space between the notes. Ruffly I’m dividing the record into three zones. The more IDM-ish tracks which are as I mentioned before much more open then the recent Funckarma stuff which felt often to heavy to complex to demanding also. Like the opener Gallice and the very beautiful spacy Vertox Dreaming. Other tracks are more contemporary, heavy on the bass, dubstep-ish. These are dense. Listening to Fiction Stub makes you aware of the Big City again, subways, sirens, grains. The pulsing and pounding fundamentals are dominant. Koortshond is purple with an orange banner. Subtlety with a barking pitbull aside. The third zone is the inbetweens, constructed from both areas often adrift so it seems like in the Cobaned Banner you’ll find your self confused, WTF was this…But then you listen to Ledge which is also inbetween but so much more controlled, a pure listening experience. Skarm Sfiais is pure discomfort, dirty voices, high pitched needles, metal flakes. Slowly it shifts into and Predetor kinda nightmare, pure madness. All in all it’s a listening experience from a ‘new’ producer.

Offshore is on our radar ever since his debut on Stuff a few months ago. He did an mix for the Sonic Router with a great interview to go along with it. Very divers mix it became. Download
Diverse Concepts is part of Chrome Kids, our fellow bloggers from the UK. Matt Humphries made a video Suspended Dialogue which uses the track B r o k E n from the Taking Flight EP (which shall drop on 22nd March via bandcamp)
Devonwho put out a free remix album featuring tracks from his friends from LA. The remixes are form Devonwho‘s album titled Funraiser vol.1: thumbtracks. The remixes are done by creme de la creme of the LA beats and hip hop scene. Most of the remixes are soaked in the urge of now. Next to the fact that this is a cool album, it’s also a great overview of the LA beats scene, moving from Brainfeeder along Low End Theory to dublab. It fits perfectly with the Fat CityLA series.
People involved in remixing the album are Tokimonsta, mndsgn, Yuk, Alex B, hi-res, Krystal Klear, Matthewdavid, Shlohmo, Teebs, P.U.D.G.E. Dibiase ao.
The brothers Funcken are in the music bizz for a long time with off and on success. Their projects vary in music styles from IDM, techno, electro, hip hop and just for the last couple of yours they moved into dubstep. Their sound on the Dubstoned EP (number 3 already) is very dub reggae infected. The dubs are heavy on the bass, the space reverb is all around us: trippy space. During the EP the sound evolves towards dubtechno (Delibel / Sovtron) but then more from a IDM perspective. Again the Funcken brothers define their specific field of music from their guts to their brain.
The remix by the brilliant Wallonians Herrmutt Lobby (only digital) makes it complete. Dark, grimy, pure sandpaper for the ears and brain.

For many years I am lost into the dislectic world of Autechre. I hope this sonic voyage will never end. Especially after listing to their new mix for the FACT-magazine. Autechre have put together a mix in advance of their forthcoming album Oversteps and European live dates. Genre-free in the old and the new. This is how a perfect night ‘lost in music’ would sound like. Seriously excited about Oversteps. The ‘Quaristice’ night in the Petrol-club/ Antwerp was a mindblowing moment in 2008… O my gosh!
Amon Tobin, the one and only just posted on his website the release of his new EP called Hey Mr Tree. You can only buy it at his own website. He made on bandcamp a great preview for this.
If you are into his dark-IDM-fucked-up-beats-mix you need to check this.
