Dynooo – Gum Dragon
Dynooo, from Belgium, has an own store and blog Mac Fly and soon his own release as well. The mini-album is set for release on the Digsville label. His style rides within the abstract beats territory with an old skool R&B and funk vibe. The EP is very diverse going from hard-hitting bangers (Tranch, Cawf drop and Collab with Bretzel Zoo’s Richard Vaen Will Flattened) to soothing head-nodders (Fuh Real, Furbee). Great release!

Randy Barracuda’s Electro Funk Rarities vol.1
Randy Barracuda’s Electro Funk Rarities vol.1 is an exploration into stuff most only read about (not me I lived that area!). Randy told me about is his collection of rare electro-funk from the early 80ies and his quest for getting this stuff.
Expect some funky basslines, vocoders and handclaps. You can hear where people like Dam Funk, the Skweee’s take there inspiration from. “An ex tempore mixx in friend’s garage one nite. Contains some sloppy mixing but who gives a fuck?” The ghost of Rick James is never that far away….

It has pop, world, party and beyond all that.Like all Skweee it’s an intriguing blend of Bambataa, Kraftwerk , some dirt from IDM, and the groove of some magical raw funk. LORD NEWBORN & THE MAGIC SKULLS
The Ubiquity label is suddenly back in our range of attention. The Lord Newborn & The Magic Skulls is a collaboration effort of Shawn Lee, Money Mark and Tommy Guerrero. It brings us instrumental hip hop (with real instruments) with electronica infected with some jazz, funky breaks with a nice west coast flavouring. The record is the result of a few ‘winter’ weeks jamming in the studio of Money Mark in LA. Would have been perfect summer record! Listen to the soundbites

FALTYDL
One of the most talked about people at the moment is Newyorkian FaltyDL. His music is hard to pin down. His sound moves between IDM, garage, funk, dubstep, bassline and some other kinda sounds that are almost to difficult to define. Sometimes it leans back to the UK Funky sound without getting into it. Ever since his latest release on Stones Throw, Let’s Take Off, Dam Funk has our attention. His smooth style of hip hop and beats is so cool, so tastefull so groovy we can’t get enough of it. Now we found this summer mix full of oldies mixed perfectly with Dam Funk tracks.
