SUBEENA Picture / Spectrums

February 24th 2010 by SIMcommander | Tags: , | Tweet this post

Subeena releases a new track on her own, newly formed Opit Records. After her releases on (now dysfunctional) Immigrant/Imminent Recordings and Planet Mu she drops a massiv new one with Picture. It opens with a harpsichord massively dubbed from which we are blown away by a rolling techno vibe. Heavy bass-kick mixed with heavy synth overload, from there we hear this rolling bass synth take over: where dubstep flows into techno. Spectrums opens with a space vibes all over covered with this on going stepping square rave beat topped with an overwhelming symphonietta. Again Subeena proves that she knows how to fill th floor.

FUNCKARMA Dubstoned EP3

February 11th 2010 by SIMcommander | Tags: , , , , | Tweet this post

The brothers Funcken are in the music bizz for a long time with off and on success. Their projects vary in music styles from IDM, techno, electro, hip hop and just for the last couple of yours they moved into dubstep. Their sound on the Dubstoned EP (number 3 already) is very dub reggae infected. The dubs are heavy on the bass, the space reverb is all around us: trippy space. During the EP the sound evolves towards dubtechno (Delibel / Sovtron) but then more from a IDM perspective. Again the Funcken brothers define their specific field of music from their guts to their brain.
The remix by the brilliant Wallonians Herrmutt Lobby (only digital) makes it complete. Dark, grimy, pure sandpaper for the ears and brain.

Cinnamon Chasers – Luv Deluxe (Scuba Remix)

Scuba retains the original’s lush synths and builds a bass-heavy techno foundation around it.

Sbtrkt – Right Place

The mysterious Sbtrkt drops a free track for us. He has been getting alot  of buzz lately and rightly so. His tunes are very diverse ranging from techno to house to dubstep. This particular one takes on the wobbly dubstep approach with a lovely garage shuffle and some Radiohead goodness.

YANG 2009 list

I didn’t think too long and hard about this list. Mainly because I would never be able to create an absolute top 15 and I would always forget some tracks, no matter how long I’d think about it. So I just listed 15 tracks I really really liked out of the top of my head.

UNTOLD Flexible

December 15th 2009 by SIMcommander | Tags: , | Tweet this post

untoldUntold is an adventures man. His releases have been, from day one on tempting. Yukon, the first one was amazing, this 10 inch was a daring blend between dubtechno, dubstep and on the remixes that followed abstract beats were added. His last one, Stop What Your Doing we already reviewed as one of the best records this year and then sudenly this one….This is as simple as strong. Reduced to demanding powerfull beats, layered and shifting. Its amazing how rich this track is.

GHOSTS ON TAPE / ROSKA – Predator Mode

Ghosts On TapeGhosts on Tape is as we wrote before, one of the interesting people on the block. The style is  a complex mix of styles. The Predator Mode is uptempo topped by Roska’s Funky remix which is an absolute floorkiller. But then you listen to Equator Jam and you feel the dancehall rhythm with it’s push packed in beautiful dubstechno. Straight From the Cassette is this dirty south bouncy crunker. With gunshots as handclaps mixed in an electro-hop-ish stlyo.  Out on the ever tempting Wireblock.
