One of the most raunchy dirty explicit tracks in a long time which is based on Dre Skull’s Smoke Machine riddim. Dre Skull has made some massiv tunes and mixes. You can download a great introduction here at xlr8r.
This riddim was the hit Yuh Love for Vybz Kartel.
You can download the Bonify track for free via xlr8r.
Terror Danjah whips out his dusty 7″s on this free download mix my kinda sound! (via the twitter)
POTENTZ from Croydon, will be the first 2010 release for the Police in Helicopter label. He has a direct link to Mad Professor`s ARIWA fame hits and to dubstep icon Kromestar with whom he had a crew with in the early days. He has founded a dubplate only crew with Cessman and Kromestar called TerraFonix.
Mission is a rootsy skanky sound riddim! Heavy on the bass….The track is voiced by the ever incredible Mc Soom-T. She adds to the already impressive riddem a raw edgy feel to it with her toasting style! Bad one! Also on the mic is the mighty Solo Banton (you might know him from the Mahanee riddim also on PiH) with this nice reverb on his voice. To promote the record Phokus (PiH 002 massiv tune) did a promomix. The b-side is thick with wobblin bass, rootsy echoes and pushy hiats…
As allways making lists is asking for trouble. I really try to keep up during the year (I even have a file on my desktop the whole year on named toplist!!). What do I listen to, what stays on my turntables, ipod. Sometimes I listen to a track to long so I bore myself (stupid) and some tracks stay in my head forever.
This year was great for the abstract beats and everything that developed from this. Dubstep as a genre is becoming problematic: to harsh, not subtle, to much copying formulas and then again people like Kryptic Minds (just didn’t get my list, place 21) and some others like Akira Kiteshi were amazing but Skweee really did it for me. The adventure is great, going from funk to idm-ish to dubstep-ish! But the most amazing track was Sluga’s rework of Pharoah Monchs Simon Says. All lists in no order…! Read more »
Originally from Panama but now residing in Oakland these dudes mix styles like hip hop and dancehall blend it with hip Latin American influences like cumbia and baile. The result is a riddim based sound over which we here a flow is spitted which is and teasing and a bit lazy, a great combination. Everything is powered with a great sense of humor (texts in the translator for those who don’t understand spanish) and raw sounds. Perfect music to escape the rainy days….
The people at Jahtari are treating us very good at the end of the year, over here we have Santa Klaas and he gives us a great present. This new Tapes is magic. A perfect mix of old skool 80ies dancehall tunes next to some abstract beats, dubstep grooves in the style of people like Joker, Slugabed.
Added to this already great poppery we get also some outstanding vintage sound sculptures with this Kraftwerk taste. In the end we had two of each adventures tracks. Tapes rule! Snippets and download after the Read more »
Talen has released on a short notice two 12 inch tales from the big cities Kingston and New York on the Swiss Mouthwatering Records. Within the dancehall rhythm style Talen creates a metropolitan dark kinda sound, influenced by the Croydon sound we know as dubstep, lyrically the connection is made by Sizzla in The Vibes on the Kingston Book.
Both releases are voiced by some great names, Cutty Ranks and Sizzla on the Kingston Book; Sensational and Oddatee (a protegee of Dalek) on the New York Book. The tracks are mixed people like Stereotyp and Al Haca.
The New York Book purifies the hip hop beat so it makes way for the voice. On Bit Turner’s edit it’s grimy, layering the voices of Oddatee inbetween the wobbling baseline. The Sensational voiced tracks are pure big city blues hip hop tracks…

Lowriders are again hosting the basement at the Bazar Curieux festival on December 5th in Rotterdam (Maassilo). Last year it was a blast. Together with Dj Gomes (Oi! Amsterdam) we challenged the big names in the two main halls with overwhelming success. This year it’s going to be mad with and Rednas from Ghettoblaster Soundsystem fame (a mate from Beatnologic) and mister Skweee: RANDY BARRACUDA. He’ll be doing a live-set fully equipped, almost a studio setting!!! We’ve been writing a lot about Skweee and one of its frontmen so check the rest of the blog and you know you can’t miss it.
We just wrote about the debut EP of Ghosts on Tape and in this same week he also released a mix for XLR8R. This mix is sporting hot tropical vibes and just about every tune will set the dancefloor on fire. It features a lot of Ghosts on Tape’s own turbo-crunk productions as well as some electro, bassline, cumbia, dancehall and even some reggaeton!

Ghosts on Tape is as we wrote before, one of the interesting people on the block. The style is a complex mix of styles. The Predator Mode is uptempo topped by Roska’s Funky remix which is an absolute floorkiller. But then you listen to Equator Jam and you feel the dancehall rhythm with it’s push packed in beautiful dubstechno. Straight From the Cassette is this dirty south bouncy crunker. With gunshots as handclaps mixed in an electro-hop-ish stlyo. Out on the ever tempting Wireblock.
