Mad man CX KIDTRONIK finally drops his long awaited record on Stones Throw. His sound is so different from the standard ST releases it amazed me that it is released: It's loud, obnoxious and mad! He combines the noise of Public Enemy and breakcore, with the pushy electro of the likes of Mantronix and as explicit as 2LiveCrew. For me the very loud cousin of Spank Rock: Booty Calls!
On this picture disc + CD release he's joined with Diallo & King Geedorah.
The opener Black Girl White Girl is covered with this ruff nagging bass synth soaked in noise and covered with loads of 8bit fire. Wild Kingdom is dominated by the laidback drops of King Geedorah, articulate as ever! The 8bit fire continues to illustrate the innercity street panik. Thick as mud and sharp as metal it bangs. The instrumental is something on it's own: HEAVY.
All the versions on the CD are getting as apocalyptic as the sound of today can be.

A solid 34 minutes of sheer day glo caramel goo and neon shine butter. Ann-Arbor born Charles Trees signed with our friends of Musique Large. The EP is an intriguing mix of 80ies synth extravaganza, hip hop and electro funk like on the title song The Dream. The second track Mahjongg starts along the same path but with more electro kinda influences: dirty 8bit synths, claps. Funky like skweee growing epic in it's build up to the tracks climax and then when you expect it to go bang it fades... nice!
Col Ak Ill is like a good Dam Funk track, funky from the start, pumping synth bass, stuttering beats and a beautiful percussion and organ end. Gratiot Gowanus with Shigeto from Ghostly International fame is a strange track that somehow lingers on and has a enormous push at the same time. Subtle also with the gritty sounds. The remix of the title track is done by the other new signees Baron Retif & Concepcion Perez.

Two names from the Hyperdub roster teaming up for number 34 already. Quarta 330 we know from his 8bit remix of Kode9 Samurai track which was pretty dirty. L.V. we know from his team-ups on Hyperdub with Dandelion and Errol Bellot(Globetrotting and CCTV were a fav track of mine). Now L.V. teams up with Quarta 330 which results in something you wouldn't expect: an 8bit funky groovy trip. Hylo starts as a gameboy fuck-up to switch suddenly into a funky shuffle covered with bleeps and a pounding bassline. Suzuran’ is a remix of Quarta 330’s remix of Japanese Chiptunes artists ‘Dong's original track. It's a beautiful clash of tiny melodies, vocoder voices syncopated drums put into a Scifi Funky floor killer.

What is going on? Eprom drops another banger, after his Humanoid (Rwina), Never (Surefire), Lands & Bones (with Eskmo on Warp) and the collab with Profisee: Zoning (all btw reviewed on this blog!)
Shoplifter is this rave-ish acid-electro hip hop bumper, mad on the tweak driven by a pulsing dancehall-ish bassline and dito hi-hates and then the arcade fire.... WOW. Feels like late nineties when dancehall was digital hardcore. The remix by madman Slugabed is as allways over all hills taking only casualties: wounded and tormented.
Must add this to your collection!
Bubble at first feels like a rework of Shoplifter but then the nobs on the machines and the mad neighbour reworks your wall with his full equipted toolshed. Acid mayhem.

Lowriders Collective schuimen de grenzen van genres af voor dikke feestjes in Rotterdam. Zo komen op de feestjes genres voorbij als dubstep, skweee, beats, streetbass, dancehall, hip hop maar ook rave, Baltimore, electro en muziekgenres die nog om een benaming vragen. Tijdens Motel Mozaïque hosten de Lowriders de Watt Basement op zaterdag waar meteen een aantal persoonlijke favorieten zoals Dam Funk, vanwege zijn funky electro hip hop stijl; Daedelus is dé man zoals hij freakt op zijn mononon (Als je t ziet weet je eindelijk hoe dat ding heet!). Maar King Midas Sound is natuurlijk ook helemaal goed met hun grote-stad-blues gedragen door die betoverende stemmen, weliswaar geen feestmuziek maar diep is het zeker. Andere tips dan nog? Natuurlijk is er de grote zaal op zaterdag, maar dat zeggen wel liever niet want dan mis je Lowriders, waar alleseter GLK de boel zal ontregelen met een nog eclectischere mix.
