If this new EP of Ikonika is any indication of quality for her debut album have Contact, Love, Want, Have, then we’re in for a real treat. Idiot starts out with her signature off-beat 8bit melodies but instead of being combined with halfstep rhythms the melodies are paired with some powerful soca drums. The result is a hybrid funky roller which will hit the dancefloors with devastating effects. On the flip is a remix by Altered Natives who we all know from the incredible funky anthem Rass Out. The remix isn’t a new hit in the making but it’s still a nice extra if you’re into dark broken beats.

Skweee mixtape galore out here on the Lowriders blog lately. Straight from the outbacks of Milwaukee U.S.A. Dj Puffin treats us to some nice Midwestern squizzle, dubby beats and lo fi crushed bit ish. On the dilly from his Soundcloud page… A good 40 minutes of hot synth business. Tracklist after the jump…

Moscovian beats lord Pixelord comes with a free EP. Warm glitchy hip hop rhythms, 8bit overload and overwhelming basses; the formula for some next level music and Pixelord knows how to concoct something really special using these ingredients. This man will be big! Loving the artwork as well, fits perfectly with the feel of the tracks.
We have been writing off and on about Ghislain Poirier. His musical focus is in a constant flow moving precisely between hypes and trends. His riddim series on Ninja Tune and on soundcloud is very intrueging and cool. I love it because he adds always this typical thing called Poirier to it even when he touches Soca or dancehall, Hip hop or electro. So we gonna keep posting till the whole world loves the Poirier sound! This new release is so good against the winter that’s still around, pure vitamins! The tunes are moving in-between 8bit, electro, soca, kwaito and house in a perfect smooth way like a pure basement party on fire! This energy bomb is the overture for his forthcoming Running High 2CD set (compiling EP’s, new tracks, versions, and remixes).
FACT did a great feature on 10 upcoming producers who in their opinion will stand in the spotlights of 2010. Some of our favourites like Illum Sphere, Mosca and Julio Bashmore are featured in the series. Every artist contributed a mini-mix as well as an interview. Check out part one and part two. Highly recommended to download these mixes.
My personal favorite is grime producer SRC. Think of Joker’s earlier work but influenced by the NES instead of Playstation. The guys from Butterz have been pushing his tracks for a while now on their radioshow so it’s no surprise he’s signed to their new label. The now already prolific Numbers label will also put out an 12″ in the near future.

Personally I’m not a big fan of Crookers and the original version of No Security (a Rusko-like dubstep raver) kinda goes past by me. Aside from the original there are also two big big remixes by none other than Rustie and Zomby.
Rustie brings heat with his aquacrunk and synth madness. The vocals of Kelis on top are a perfect match. There’s even some guitar action going on!
Zomby’s version has the signature bleeps we know from the Hyperdub EP and some very cool 8bit bomb samples which serve as part of the drums.
